Scientific Competence

The processing of modern lightweight materials, taking into account the functional integration, sustainability aspects and the increasing diversity of product variants, pose constantly new challenges to production technologies. The Institute of Manufacturing Technology has been addressing this challenge for more than four decades and contributes to the development of qualified solutions for the manufacturing technology problems of our time through both, basic and industry-oriented research. For a holistic and cross-thematic analysis of the interdisciplinary issues, the scientific work at the Institute is divided into four research groups. Besides Sheet Metal Processing and Bulk Metal Forming, this also includes Manufacturing Processes as well as Materials Characterization and Modeling.
